Your Money Is Safe: How Fixt Escrow Protection Works
Pay only when the job is done right. Our escrow system holds your payment securely until you verify completion.
Why Escrow Matters in Home Repair
The biggest fear homeowners have is paying for work that never gets done — or gets done badly. The biggest fear contractors have is completing work and not getting paid. Traditional home repair has no solution for either. Fixt's escrow system solves both problems simultaneously by holding payment in a neutral account until both parties are satisfied.
How It Works: Step by Step
When you accept a fixer's bid, your payment is authorized and held via Stripe — the same payment infrastructure used by Amazon, Shopify, and Uber. The money leaves your account but is not released to the contractor. It sits in a secure escrow hold until you confirm the job is complete. Think of it as a digital handshake: the contractor knows the money exists, and you know it will not be released until you say so.
The Completion Verification Process
When your fixer marks the job as complete, you get a notification to review the work. You can approve immediately, which releases the payment to the contractor within 24 hours. If something is not right, you can request revisions through the in-job chat. The fixer addresses the issue, marks it complete again, and you review once more. Only your explicit approval triggers the payment release.
What Happens in a Dispute
If you and the contractor cannot agree, either party can open a dispute. Our admin team reviews the evidence — photos, chat history, the original job scope, and completion photos. We may also use AI analysis to compare before/after photos objectively. Resolution options include full refund, partial refund, or full payment release, depending on the evidence. Our goal is fairness for both sides.
Protection for Contractors Too
Escrow is not just for homeowners. Contractors on Fixt know that when they complete quality work, payment is guaranteed. No more chasing invoices. No more "the check is in the mail." The money is already held — it is just waiting for the homeowner to confirm. This security is why many fixers tell us Fixt is the first platform where they feel truly protected.
The Technical Security Layer
All payments are processed through Stripe Connect, which is PCI DSS Level 1 certified — the highest level of payment security. Your card details never touch our servers. The escrow hold uses Stripe's manual capture feature, meaning the charge is authorized but not captured until release. This is the same mechanism used by hotels and car rental companies worldwide.
